Butterfly Pods

The pods sit on five acres of private forest in rural Kansas, about an hour south of Kansas City. Two large semi-private lakes border the property, accessible by a private fishing dock where turtles surface and deer occasionally wander past the windows. The location is remote enough that Starlink provides the only internet connection and the night sky opens up without light pollution. Silence here is real, broken only by wind through trees and whatever wildlife decides to make an appearance.

Days here tend to follow the rhythm of the land rather than any schedule. Mornings might start with coffee in bed, watching light move across the water through those towering windows, or swaying in a deck hammock while the forest wakes up. Afternoons could mean paddling out on the lake by kayak, floating in the pool, or simply reading in one of the many nooks designed for exactly that. By evening, the fire pit draws everyone in. Eight Adirondack chairs circle the flames, marshmallows get roasted, and conversation stretches longer than expected under stars that most guests haven't seen this clearly in years. The off-grid systems work quietly in the background, making sustainability feel less like sacrifice and more like intention. Energy use becomes part of the awareness here, inviting a more mindful pace that most guests find they actually wanted all along.
